Technical Requirements

Before starting your online program, please review these requirements to determine if you have the necessary tools, software, and computer equipment.

Computer

eNYU-Poly recommends that online students have access to a computer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Computers available at work, at a library, or other public areas may prohibit your login times, download capabilities, or even have firewalls that prevent you from getting to your course. You will also need the ability to save or store documents.

Your computer should be equipped as follows:

PC:

•  Operating System: Windows 98, 98Se, Me, NT, 2000, or XP
•  Memory: 64 MB RAM
•  Modem: 28.8 kbps modem (56K Recommended)
•  Additional Equipment: Sound Card & Speakers
•  At least one of the following browsers: Internet Explorer 6.0 (recommended),
•  Internet Explorer 5.5 (supported), Netscape Communicator 7.1 (recommended), Netscape Communicator 4.77, 4.78, 4.79 (supported)

MAC :

•  Operating System: MacOS 8.1 - 9.1 and OS X
•  Memory: 32 MB RAM (64 Recommended)
•  Modem: 28.8 kbps modem (56K Recommended)
•  Additional Equipment: Sound Card & Speakers
•  At least one of the following browsers: Internet Explorer 5.1, 5.22 (recommended), Internet Explorer 4.5, 5.0, 5.01 (supported), Netscape Communicator 7.1 (recommended), Netscape Communicator 4.77, 4.78, 4.79 (supported), Safari 1.2 (supported)

Internet Connection

You will need your own internet account with a local Internet Service Provider (ISP). Most ISP accounts can be obtained for a nominal fee, which you are responsible for.

e-Mail address

Registered NYU-Poly students are provided an email account. You may choose to use another email account, which you are responsible for. Please note that some free web-based email accounts may have file size and storage limitations.

Software

You may need MS office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). You should also have the following free downloads Adobe Acrobat Reader, RealPlayer, MacroMedia Flash Player, and Java. Your instructor will indicate if you need to purchase or download additional software in order to participate effectively in online courses.

eCollege Technical Specifications and Browser Test

eNYU-Poly utilizes eCollege as a virtual campus. eCollege houses the course materials, serves as a platform for your class, and allows eNYU-Poly to deliver courses to students.
