Polytechnic Institute of NYU has announced a new distance learning program that will allow students to earn a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering through online courses. Graduate students can now apply online for classes beginning September 30. The online degree program allows students to complete course work at their own convenience, making time in their schedule for a master`s degree program. It also makes a Polytechnic degree available to students who do not live in the New York metropolitan area.
The admissions policy is identical for applicants of both the online degree and traditional degree programs offered at Poly`s MetroTech/Brooklyn campus and its graduate centers on Long Island and Westchester County, N.Y. Participants of the distance-learning program will face the same challenging course work required of all Polytechnic students to earn a master`s degree.
“We've seen many students struggle to earn a graduate degree while holding down a full-time job. Registering for classes that don`t conflict with work hours has been one of the greatest challenges,” says Dr. Sunil Kumar, associate provost for graduate admissions at Polytechnic. “We've launched this online program—providing the same rigorous curriculum as our traditional on-campus graduate electrical engineering program—to help accommodate the increasingly busy schedules of our students.”
The program comprises three core courses, two two-course sequences and electives and concentrations that provide knowledge and experience across a number of sub disciplines within electrical engineering. Students can choose a formal concentration in one of several subdivisions, including, computer engineering, telecommunications and networking, signal processing, systems and control, electronics and VSLI, fields and waves, plasma and atmospheric physics, power systems and energy or wireless communications.
